The entire West Arm of Kootenay Lake offers a wealth of birding opportunities alongside visits to quaint communities such as Balfour, Nelson, Procter and Harrop. Lakeside Park in Nelson, at the foot of the famous ‘Orange Bridge,’ is the pride of Nelson’s waterfront, encompassing many outdoor activities, a paved walking trail and a variety of bird species. The park is a key congregation hotspot for waterfowl, including Western and Red-throated Grebe, Redhead, Hooded Merganser, Barrow’s Goldeneye and the Red-breasted Merganser.
